translation needed for a support request
hello :)

i'm looking for someone to translate a support request from french to english for me. we will likely need someone to translate a support answer from english back to french again once we know what they're trying to ask. i've tried to drag back the french i learned when i was 16, but unfortunately i'm nearly 20 now and it's all drained away.

i'd be very grateful if someone could help me out with this. oh, and you'd probably get a support point out of it once we get an answer written up to be posted back to them ;)

Hello,

I was very surprised when i saw this person's "request", I guess he wanted to posted in his journal instead in the support area. The translation is:

"Everyday, the world is changing.
The time of life was another dream which gave me faith.
I have only one person i can trust, my girlfriend, the one i love the most"

oh god, how embarrassing! heh. i fed it into altavista and at first i thought perhaps he wanted a code to start a journal. then someone else suggested perhaps they got confused and were trying to write a journal entry.

so NOW we need to tell them something like:

"The support area is here to help with any questions about the site you may have, and to help fix any problems you experience.

would you be able to translate that for me? if you do, post it as a screened answer on the request, and then separate it with a line, then write the english underneath. usually we give more detailed answers regarding account creation, but i think it would be best just to use the FAQ in this case, especially if it can be displayed in french.

i replied in French to the request and with the answer translated in English.
hmm.. i just put <hr noshade> to seperate the french answer and the english translation, and it didn't show up as a horizontal rule...

support answers don't support html, so just a line of ------- or ======== will do fine.

i'm sure i read about being able to append ?blahsomething to the end of FAQ links to force them to display in a language. this person may not have set their language for the site, meaning the FAQs will be almost useless. that's why i wanted to have the link in the body of the text and not from the drop down box ;)

if you can find out and resubmit without the html, and with the french language forced for the FAQs, then that would be great. if you don't know how to do the FAQ thing, then i can ask around.

the FAQs in French aren't fully translated yet. i could explain him in French what the FAQs are saying but it would take more time.

The invitation code system is a temporary measure. It was introduced to curb the rapid growth of accounts, because the LiveJournal servers were being put under unnecessary strain, and the site was slow and unstable for the rest of the users. It was also introduced to prevent the creation of accounts for purely abusive purposes.

You can check http://www.livejournal.com/news.bml periodically for announcements affecting the site. If invitation codes are removed, it will be announced here. Do bear in mind that they are only a temporary measure, and when another solution to both problems is found, they will be removed.

:) don't worry about it. lots of people don't see the tiny grey text underneath saying that html isn't allowed, i see it all the time. answers can't be deleted, and i've seen a LOT worse, believe me.

thanks for doing this, it's very helpful :) they have another request in a different category, although they wrote that one in basic english. haven't a clue what they want though, and luckily it's not a category i work in, so i can safely pretend it doesn't exist! :p

Thank you very much. Unfortunately, most of the pages I'm referring to (the login page, the page which explains in details how to buy a paid account...) aren't fully translated or not translated at all yet.
